Onion Pie (Zwiebel Kuchen)
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
3/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. caraway
1/2 c. shortening
2-3 T. water
3 c. peeled onions, sliced thinly
3 T. melted butter
1/2 c. milk
1 1/2 c. sour cream
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs, well beaten
3 T. flour
crisp bacon slices
Mix flour, salt and caraway. Cut in shortening till like coarse
crumbs. Stir in water lightly with a fork till mixture forms a ball.
Roll 1/8" thick on floured board. Fit into 10" pie pan. Flute edges.
Bake at 425degF 10 minutes or till lightly browned.
Saute onions in butter till golden. Place in crust. Mix milk, 1 1/4
c. of the sour cream, salt and eggs. Mix flour with remaining 1/4 c.
of sour cream. Add to egg mixture. Pour this over the onions. Bake
at 325degF for 30 min. or till firm in center. Garnish w/bacon.
